Camp Al-Hilal Behavior Policy

Mission Statement: Camp Al-Hilal is a week long Islamic Youth Camp providing campers an opportunity to increase their Islamic knowledge, enjoy outdoor activities and build valuable bonds of friendship. 

Each camper is expected to treat all other campers and staff with dignity, respect, and to help each other achieve the best possible experience. We work together as a team to ensure that campers gain self-confidence, make new friends, and go home with great camp memories. 

Certain behaviors that violates Camp Al-Hilal Behavior Policy fall under two categories and will be treated as such:

Zero Tolerance policy: Any action/behavior as indicated in the Behavior Policy, that is engaged by a camper will result in automatic dismissal.  Parent/Guardian will be notified and expected to pick up the camper within the same day or at a reasonably deemed time.  No return to camp and no refund of fees.

One Strike Policy: Any action/behavior as indicated in the Behavior Policy, that is engaged by a camper will result in a formal warning being given to the camper by Admin and Counselor together.  As part of the warning, staff will ensure that the camper understands why certain behaviors are not allowed and be given time to rectify the situation.  If the action/behavior occurs again, Parent/Guardian will be notified and expected to pick up the camper within the same day or at a reasonably deemed time.  No return to camp and no refund of fees.

Bullying – One Strike Policy

Camp Al-Hilal defines bullying as repeated, health-harming mistreatment of one or more people by one or more perpetrators. It is abusive conduct that includes:

  • Threatening, humiliating, or intimidating behaviors.
  • Verbal abuse: personal insults, use of offensive nicknames, rumoring, and/or derogatory terms.
  • Exclusion: deliberate socially or physically excluding or disregarding a person in activities.

All campers and staff will be strongly encouraged to report any bullying conduct they experience or witness as soon as possible to allow Camp Al-Hilal to take appropriate action.

Racisms – Zero Tolerance Policy

Any behavior/comment/actions intended to alienate and/or harm according to race, gender, socio-economic class of any camper and staff will result in our zero tolerance policy.  These actions include comments in any language that are meant to intimidate, make fun of or demean others or take away from an individual enjoying dignity and equality. 

Violence/Potential Harm – Zero Tolerance Policy

Any behavior or action that includes threat of physical assault and/or physical assault which can include but is not limited to: pushing, punching, kicking or any action intending bodily harm will result in zero-tolerance policy to all parties involved. 

Prohibited Items – Zero Tolerance Policy

Any items listed below found on the camper or amongst their personal items will result in our Zero Tolerance Policy.

  • Tobacco, Vapes, Drugs and/or associated paraphernalia 
  • Swiss Army Tool and Knives
  • Fireworks and Smoke Bombs 

Vandalism – Zero Tolerance Policy

Campers involved in vandalism or malicious mischief either against the camp property or participants of camp will result in our Zero Tolerance Policy. Vandalism includes any kind of damage or graffiti on camp walls, furniture, bathroom stalls, equipment, etc. Payment to repair any damage accrued as a result of the vandalism is the responsibility of the camper’s parent/guardian. 

Disruptive Behavior – One Strike Policy

Any camper conduct, either individually or in a group, that is intentionally disruptive to or designed to be disruptive to the normal operation of the camp program will result in our One Strike policy. Such conduct includes but is not limited to the following: behavior advocating disruption or destruction, refusing to cooperate with camp staff attempting to maintain or restore order in the cabin/group – and/or program activity, and consistently starting disagreements or arguments in cabin/group.

Search and Seizure

Camp Al-Hilal reserves the right to search camper’s property if the camp staff deems the search is necessary to maintain the integrity of the camp’s environment and/or the protection of the other staff or campers. These searches may result in the confiscation of items that are prohibited or items deemed to be used to cause disruption to the camp program and/or camp grounds.
